Bishop of Darwin

Bishop Eugene Hurley was appointed Bishop of Darwin in 2007. Previously Bishop Hurley served the Diocese of Port Pirie as Bishop from 1999 to 2007, and as a priest since 1964. He has served as Army and Industrial Chaplain and worked part-time at the University of South Australia during the 1990s, lecturing in Australian Sociology, Philosophy and a post-graduate program in Counselling. For several years Bishop Hurley has been a member of the Federal Minister’s Council on Asylum Seekers and Detention. Bishop Hurley is currently the Chair of the Bishops’ Commission for Relations with Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders.
