Catholic wedding platform Cana made news for something small but telling: a new registry featuring Catholic vendors – sacred art, icons, handmade faith-centered gifts – instead of the usual big-box options.

It’s a nice idea for a home. But it’s also a quiet statement about what a marriage is actually for.
It’s easy, in the middle of planning a wedding, to let the day take over – the venue, the guest list, the registry, the photos. All of it matters. None of it is the point.
The point is the vow: two people giving themselves to each other, and to God, for the rest of their lives, no matter what those lives bring.
A home filled with sacred art won’t make a marriage strong on its own. But it’s a small, physical reminder of a much bigger truth – that this household is being built around something more permanent than taste or trend.
Every choice couples make while planning a wedding is a chance to ask: are we preparing for a party, or are we preparing for a covenant?
That’s the real work of the engagement period – not just picking colors and playlists, but forming the habits, communication, and faith that a lifelong marriage actually needs.
